Magnetize Balance and Harmony

At some point during the past week, you probably felt like you had things ‘under-control’. Maybe you had an especially big win at work, tackled a home project you’d been putting off, or felt that your relationships were fulfilling and just where you like them to be. Life in that place feels sweet!

The question is, how long does that feeling last? What’s the tipping point that shifts you from feeling in control to feeling overwhelmed? An even better question: Is controlling your external world the best approach to feeling that life is balanced and harmonious?

Since life is inevitably unpredictable, and there will always be times when we question if we can handle what shows up for us, is it possible to feel harmonious all the time? Or at least most of the time? Perhaps the key to creating more balance and harmony begins with releasing the desire to control anything outside ourselves.

The truth is, it’s not a moot point. We can’t control anything except our own moment-to-moment responses. Awareness and inner guided action are the secret keys to sustaining that sweet spot feeling in life. The ancient teachings of yoga, paired with the latest research in the fields of neuroscience and positive psychology, reveal that there’s much to be gained from intentional self-regulation practices—aka inner guided actions.

Mindful movement, rhythmic breathing and selective focus are inner guided actions that have the effect of creating harmony across our bodily systems. The more we practice listening to our bodies and responding intuitively, focusing our minds, and regulating breath to balance energy, the more harmonious our inner state becomes. As we use our inner powers to create and choose balance instead of frenzy, we draw more harmony into our lives.

Harmonious, balanced inner states lead us to knowing that regardless of workload, external events or life’s unexpected demands, we can choose our response from a place aligned with deep wisdom. We all have access to that deep inner wisdom; we just need consistent regular practices to help us recognize and use it. Committing to a regular yoga practice, one that integrates mindful movement, skillful use of breath, and intentional focus is a smart choice to invite more balance and harmony into your life.
